Introduction

Burnaby, BC's third largest city, formed its own Symphony Society in June, 2000 enabling music lovers and the public at large to access first-class concerts of classical, light classical, POP, Broadway and Jazz music outside of Vancouver.

A symphony orchestra is often a city's finest and most prestigious cultural asset. To hear, at first hand, the world's masterpieces can be an exhilarating and profound experience. An orchestra offers a treasure trove of musical genius, not only of centures past, but also including the music of today's composers which will become the classics of the future.

The Burnaby Symphony was founded in 2000 by its conductor and music director, Leonard Camplin. Maestro Camplin has had a tremendous career as a conductor and as a musician. His splendid leadership of the orchestra is excelled only by his ability to bridge the gap between the orchestra and the audience with his unique way of making the listener a part of the performance. Audiences are doubly entertained by his abilities as a conductor and a raconteur.

The Burnaby Symphony Orchestra is now in its sixth year of performing successful concerts and is quickly becoming the hub around which artistic life continues to develop. The orchestra, in addition to formal concerts, can avail itself to enhance other city events such as festive seasonal galas and tourism events.

Burnaby occupies a central location in the Lower Mainland, with some fifty public schools, and it is conveniently accessed by dozens of other schools in neighbouring districts. With this large potential audience, the Burnaby Symphony Orchestra has and will continue to develop active student participation in its youth-oriented musical programs.

Access to a symphony orchestra can be a symphony's greatest gift to its children and to the children of future generations. It provides a unique opportunity to educate and raise the young generation by employing the creative power of an art form that touches the heart and mind.

The Orchestra, in addition to its regular season concerts, performs at other city events such as Galas, New Year's, Valentine's and other special events.
